Update: No likely reviews for July

Hey everone! I’m down in Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX for an ROTC thing until the end of the month, so I probably won’t be able to get an update until then! I promise I’ll make up for the delay when I return home on the 30th though! I’ll also see if I can snag a drink or two down here and get a review up for you, but I just wanted to let you know what’s going on, and why there may not be reviews until then.

To keep updated, be sure to follow my Twitter :)

Take care guys! Plenty of reviews on the way soon!

Liquid Nitro Herbal Energy

Liquid Nitro Herbal Energy and Energy Shot

Thanks to Liquid Nitro I won't be getting any sleep

Today we have a twofer; Liquid Nitro, and the Liquid Nitro Energy Shot! Let me start out by saying that the last week, I’ve been really off schedule, and I just woke up from a nap. This stuff instantly had me wide awake (I’m sure I’ll be up until 4AM or something because of this, but hey, at least I’m able to right the review now!). But we don’t care about my sleep schedule, no, no, we care about caffeine; let’s check this stuff out.

Starting out with the classic Liquid Nitro, this stuff comes in a standard 16oz can and rocks the Liquid Nitro logo vertically along the front of the can in a contrasting silver and black design. The caffeine content of Liquid Nitro puts it up with the other energy drinks on the market, it carries the industry norm of 10mg of caffeine per oz, so a can is going to give us a solid 160mg of caffeine. Not bad! Liquid Nitro also delivers your standard Vitamin B6, B12 and Taurine to help give you a kick when you’ll feeling down and tired.

Liquid Nitro is caramel in color, and due to it’s slogan of “All Energy without the Bull” I assumed it was going to be another Red Bull Clone, however I was wrong. This stuff didn’t have a distinct enough smell for me to predict what it would taste like, so I went in blindly not knowing what to expect. I’m glad to say that this stuff tastes great, it kind of reminded me of Monster, but it didn’t have the same nasty medicinal taste of Monster. I can’t really seem to describe what the flavor is, the can doesn’t promote any specific flavor, so I’ll just describe the flavor as sweet. It’s not overpoweringly sweet, but it’s not bland. I know I’m not really being helpful with my lack of specific terms for this flavor, but I promise you that this is a great tasting drink!

As I told you in the beginning of the post, this stuff really got me into gear! I felt the kick after drinking about half of the can, so this stuff is definitely worth it! While some drinks don’t really do much for you, or take a while to do anything, Liquid Nitro doesn’t dawdle when it comes to smacking you awake.

Well. Now that I’m 160mg deep in caffeine, it’s time to check out Liquid Nitro’s Energy Shot. It’s 7:00PM right now, so I know I’m going to regret doing this early tomorrow morning when I’m laying in bed wide awake, but I love all of my readers, and I have a review to complete. This Shot comes in your standard 3oz plastic bottle and displays the same logo on the front that its big brother does. The only difference in the design is that the shot displays “Exotic Berry Flavor” on the label, so I should be able to get specific on the flavor of the shot. In addition, the shot boasts that it contains  “Super CitriMax and Chromate” which apparently will curb appetite, boost metabolism, and promote overall better health. So while I may not be getting any sleep tonight, I can at least be assured I won’t get any late night hunger cravings.

Just as the label promises, this stuff has a strong berry scent to it. The taste is pretty good too; it’s not something you want to sit in your mouth, as it’s a little overpowering, but if you just drink it like you’re supposed to, it leaves a nice sweet berry aftertaste. According to the ingredients, the flavor is a mix of mangosteen and blueberry, and they’re pretty tasty.

While the energy shot is smaller in size, it delivers a bigger kick of 200mg per bottle, so watch out if you try it and don;t let it catch you off guard. Overall, I’d say that the Liquid Nitro Energy line is fantastic! Both if these products deliver their promised kick, and neither are lacking in flavor!

If you want to get some Liquid Nitro for yourself, you can buy it from the distributor online at The Nitro Guy. The site also has a video promoting the drink – the video contains young children in rapping in Jamaica , and that’s certainly something you don’t see everyday, so head on over and get some for yourself!

Sugar Free Roaring Lion

Sugar Free Roaring Lion

Sugar Free Roaring Lion

I know we just covered Roaring Lion the other day, but since there’s a few of these in the fridge right now, we ought to check them out. Sugar Free Roaring Lion is, for those of you who haven’t figured it out, the sugar free, no calorie variety of Roaring Lion. There’s not much to go into detail right now, having it be it’s similar in many ways to it’s sugared up cousin, so let’s get right to the review.

One of the thing that’s different about Sugar Free Roaring Lion is that it doesn’t come in a can, but in a 17oz plastic bottle. You know I love bottles, because it lets me spread my caffeine consumption out over time, as I’m able to set it down without fear of it spilling. Also, because of this beast’s size, it contains two servings, bringing it to a grand total of about 160~170mg of caffeine per bottle. The bottle is light blue in color, in comparison to the can’s darker shade, and the roaring lion and claw marks are still prominently displayed on the front. Like its brethren, it has a light caramel hue to it, and smells no different.

Despite its lack of sugar, this sugar free drink tastes remarkably similar to the standard version! It has that same Red Bull taste, but it’s just slighly less sweet (obviously). However, this doesn’t seem to detract from the taste all that much, it still has a kick and at times it was difficult to notice a difference at all.

That’s all for now, I apologize for the brevity of this article, but it’s so darn similar to the the sugared version that if you want to know more, just read this. As for buying the stuff, you can get it straight from the source, be it in bottles, cans, or even in 3 gallon bag!

Oral Fixation Mints

Oral Fixation Caffeinated Mints

Oral Fixation - Delicious and Addictive

I’m really groggy this morning, so I’m about to finish off the rest of what I’m reviewing today. Today we’re checking out Oral Fixation Caffeinated Mints (they’re mints, so I’ve had about 30 in an attempt to keep me up). The sample I have with me today includes two flavors: “Night Light: Caffeinated Chai Mint” and “Peppermint Mocha: Chocolate and Espresso Mints”. From what I can tell on their website, there are about 9 flavors out there, and they’d run you from $1.50 to $2.00 a tin. We can worry about the other 7 flavors another day, we’ve got two in front of us and it’s time to take a look.

All of the Oral Fixation Mints have a similar packaging. They come in a small metal tin that has the outline of two people feeding each other what I would assume to be Oral Fixation Mints embossed on the tin cover. This image is the products’ main logo it seems, and it fits the title pretty well. The tins also display the same font and each prominently display “ORALFIXATION”, as well as the flavor of the mints within. Each tin is .8oz, and has about 40 mints inside. These fellows are Kosher as well, and they contain no animal products, for you caffeinated vegans out there. However, the tins don’t display the caffeine content in the mints, so as we always do, we’ve kindly asked the manufacturers for that information.

Let’s start out with the Peppermint Mocha mints. The tin is brown in color and fades to silver on the top, as well as displaying a cup of coffee and some peppermint on the bottom. Additionally, the back of this tin reads Choco-Latte and each mint has the world FIX on one side, and either CHOCO or LATTE. Also, as of typing this sentence, there are no more Choco-Latte mints in front of me. Why? Because they’re delicious! When you eat these mints, you initially get a test of peppermint and chocolate together, which then seems to turn into just a peppermint taste for a brief moment, and then leaves a lingering after taste of chocolate. It’s pretty interesting how the taste works, and because of their deliciousness, they’re all gone :( . Well, it was fun while it lasted, looks like it’s time to move on to out other flavor!

The Night Light variety comes in an all black tin with orange lettering, and displays “Chai One” on the back. Like the Choco-Latte mints, the Chai One mints have lettering on them as well. Each mint of this variety displays “FIX” on one side and “ON” on the other. Upon trying out these mints, I noticed they’re less chewy than the Chocolate ones, and they’re easier to eat. As the tin would suggest, these are Chai Tea flavored, with a subtle hint of mint. They aren’t as candy like as the other kind, but they’re still fantastic and I’m about to finish these off as well! The aftertaste of the Chai One mints lasts a while too, which is nice.

Well, that’s it for now, time to find some more of these! If you’d like some too, you can create your own box of 12 tins for $30 and order from the official website or buy single tins or bulk cases here.

Koru Energy Strips

Koru Instant Energy Strips

Koru Strips - Awaken Mind and Body

While the energy/caffeine product market began humbly as just drinks, the sector has exploded in the last few years and new non-drink products continue to come out. With this in mind, we’ll be checking out Koru Energy Strips today. Koru Energy strips promise to “Awaken [the] Mind and Body” and offers people caffeine through tiny strips, similar to the popular Listerine breath strips. Their site explains how the caffeine enters the body faster by being absorbed through the tongue’s mucus membrane, but doesn’t seem to say how MUCH caffeine is in each strip. (Worry not, we sent off an email requesting this information, hopefully they’ll get back soon.) Now that we have a little background on how it works, let’s put try it out!

The Koru Strips come in a small plastic pouch with a face that looks like something you’d find in a Mayan ruins. The face is adorned with designs and prominently displays his tongue, which is where the strips go. Upon ripping open the bag, I found that the pouch contains four smaller packs, and more importantly, a sticker! Yes, they have included a sticker!

Koru Energy Strips and Sticker

Koru Energy Strips and Sticker

The sticker comes with a warning on the back warning us not to stick it on your tongue, and explains that only the strips go on your tongue. If only I had checked the warning sooner… Anyway, each smaller pack (four smaller packs come in each large pack) has one strip. The strip is small and rectangular, and is smooth and white colored, with “KORU” watermarked across it.

The strip dissolves pretty fast once you put it on your tongue. It seemed to be a little minty at first, but it’s actually mildly licorice flavored. I’m talking old school licorice, not the red Twizzlers stuff. The taste isn’t overwhelmingly strong though, so don’t be put off if you don’t like licorice. After it dissolved, I felt a slight kick and felt more alert. The packaging says if you need to take more than one, then do so. So I took a second. I’m starting to feel it a little more, but I’d still like to no for sure how much caffeine is in these strips.

Koru Sticker

"Don't stick this on your toungue"

Overall, Koru Instant Energy Strips are a pretty sweet product and it’s a clever idea. They’re small and convenient, they act fast, and they’re not nasty tasting or anything like that. If you want to grab some strips for yourself for 2.99 GBP (it’s a foreign based company) at the Koru site or get them from the kind folks at Chemical Evolution who sent us the sample for $2.99.

PomX Iced Coffee

PomX Iced Coffee by Pom Wonderful

The PomX Iced Coffee Trio

Today we’ll be looking at three drinks, each lovingly made by the folks over at Pom Wonderful . Pom Wonderful specializes in pomegranate drinks, and they’ve decided to enter the caffeine market with their product PomX Iced Coffee. Right now, there’s three flavors, and we have the pleasure of sampling all three. Pom boasts to be one of the healthiest caffeinated drinks out there, as it includes their patented pomegranate extract, so every sip is chock full of antioxidants (which are healthy!). They also use fat free milk, and are certified by the Rain forest Alliance (so they’re nice people). They use all natural ingredients and have chosen to use can sugar over the industry “standard” of HFCS.

Each drink comes in a plastic bulbous container with a screw off lid. It prominently – or should I say pomegranate-ly? (sorry about that) displays the flavor as well as the PomX logo. While the picture only shows one of the containers with the “The Healthy Buzz” badge, all of them now seem to have it. Additionally, each flavor packs 175mg of caffeine in a 10.5 oz container. Not bad! If you’re still with me even after that awful pun, let’s get to the actual taste, shall we?

First up to bat is the Vanilla variety. No, it does not taste like pomegranate, it’s iced coffee for goodness sake. This flavor smells like vanilla, and has a cream color to it. Vanilla tastes, well, it tastes like vanilla. I couldn’t even tell there was coffee in it, PomX clearly has utilized some sort of magic to mask out the coffee flavor. That being said, the Vanilla PomX goes down smooth, it’s not too strong, but it’s not watered down. The taste is utterly fantastic and with only 180 calories, it’s a great, and healthier alternative to the Starbucks Iced Coffees.

Next up is Café au Lait, and I’m already starting to feel the buzz from the first drink. Now this one smells like a cappachino, so it’s most likely to taste more coffee-esque than the last one. It has a kind of carmel hue to it, like coffee with a lot of milk, and just as it smells and looks like a cappacino, it tastes like it too. This variety also goes down smooth, and has a hint of coffee to the taste. PomX has done a good job of avoiding too strong of a beverage, and the Café au Lait has the perfect blend of coffee and milk to keep the flavor balanced.

Two drinks and 300mg of caffeine later, we’re now at the last of the three flavors; Chocolate. If you’ve been paying attention so far, you can probably guess that this one has a dark brown coloring, smells like chocolate, and tastes like chocolate. The taste is similar to chocolate milk with Hersey’s Syrup, but only tastes more mild and healthier (Pom uses cane sugar instead of HFCS).

This is a great product, and the three flavors are all great and give the customers a nice variety to pick from. You can check out the official site for PomX Iced Coffee over at HealthyBuzz.com or you can try to find some at your local store, use the website to locate the closest store.

Roaring Lion

Roaring Lion Energy

Roaring Lion - Let Out Your Lion!

This is the first energy drink I’ve had in a while (I went off caffeine for a few weeks) and I can really feel its effects. Today we’re looking at Roaring Lion, a drink with the slogan “Lionize Yourself” and which promises to “Let Out Your Lion!”. Well, I haven’t grown a mane yet, nor have I had the urge to maul any wildebeest, but I’m definitely energized. Roaring Lion is what I’d call a Red Bull Clone, as it has the same taste, that generic energy drink taste that Red Bull has. Lion Energy knows this, and they had a pretty ballsy campaign to show it. They sent me some of their product in addition to a can or Red Bull, and gave the instructions to have a friend pour each drink in a cup and to taste test. Let me tell you, I can’t tell a difference, it’s that good!

Like I said before, Roaring Lion tastes just like Red Bull, if not, better (by the way, I have no clue how to describe the “Red Bull Taste”, if anyone can think of a way to describe it, please comment below, heck, I’ll send you a can of this stuff if you can help me out!), and has a light amber hue to it as well. The drink comes in your standard 12 oz aluminum can adorned with a lion and what I assume are claw marks from a ferocious (and caffeinated) lion.

The folks at Roaring Lion Energy were kind enough to send the nutritional facts as well, and they’re the same as Red Bull’s, give or take a few calories. The energy mix contains 1000mg of Taurine, 600mg of D-Glucuronalactone, 80mg of Caffeine, 90mg of Inositol (10mg more than RB), 119 calories, 20mg Niacin, 10mg Vitamin B6, and .005 mg of Vitamin B12, in addition to 26g of sugar,

Overall, this is a great drink, I absolutely love the flavor, and it gets the job done! The folks over at Roaring Lion really did a great job! If you want to get some for yourself check out their website (seems to be down at the moment) or if you’re too impatient for their website to get back up, grab some here.

(And please please please help me figure out how to describe the Red Bull taste! :) )

5150 Juice (Crazy Juice)

5150 Juice (Crazy Juice)

5150 Juice (Crazy Juice)

Wow. I just want to start out by telling you how insane this stuff is. This is 5150 Juice (Crazy Juice) and it’s absolutely insane. This is the stuff that kept me awake during last minute finishing touches during the night on projects (okay, I admit they weren’t finishing touches, it was me starting the project several hours before the deadline, even after several weeks to do it), and is what kept me going hard through finals.

5150 is a product unlike any other, it’s straight up caffeine. Yes you heard me, no flavor, no additives, no gimmick, just caffeine. Each bottle packs 500mg of caffeine and you’d have to be mentally unstable or a bad ass to attempt to finish it off in one serving. The product explains that a “capful of juice” is about 80mg, or your average energy drinks worth. The product also warns you to be sure to mix it with something, be it water, Merlot, your ceral, sports drinks, whatever. Just don’t try the stuff straight up.

After checking out the instructions I took a taste without mixing it first (because I love my readers and because I’m stubborn), and it tastes like plastic and bleh. So AFTER that, I mixed it with a cup of water and I couldn’t taste it at all. The same goes for when I mixed it with Gatorade, and then Fruity Pebbles. As long as you FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS you’ll be fine, you won’t taste a thing.

5150 is my dream product – I can take any bland food or drink item and instantly make it caffeinated! The juice itself is clear, so you can’t even tell it’s been added to your drink, that is, until it kicks in. This stuff doesn’t fail to deliver, it certainly packs a punch. This is most certainly a product to try, 1 bottle is $2.50 (that’s several energy drinks worth of caffeine for the price of one) or a 12 pack for 17.99.

You can grab yourself some 5150 Juice straight from the source online here.

A Quick Update: We’re Back!

First off, I want to apologize for not keeping the site up to date over the last few months, it won’t happen again, if anything comes up again, I’ll at least tell you all. Well, you’re probably asking “CaffeineGuru, where did you go? What happened?” Well friends, college happened. I got distracted and forgot about updating the site, and when I did remember, I just never seemed to get around to it. Luckily for us all, it’s summer and I have plenty of time now to get everything back up to speed.

I’ll be reviewing again soon, and I’m going to be overhauling the site’s look, so if anything’s buggy, just check back later and it should be squared away.

And to everyone who’s sent me stuff, I’m really really sorry again for the delays, the reviews will be coming soon, I promise!

Chargers Chocolate Espresso Beans

Chargers Chocolate Espresso BeansI just realized how much I love chocolate covered espresso beans. I like them A LOT. Today we’ll check out Chargers chocolate espresso beans. Chargers come in a clever battery shaped tin that’s black and red in color and reads “Get Charged.” The tin is pretty small, about 2 inches tall, and has a pop off cap. Inside of Chargers’ tin are about 8 little red chocolate espresso beans, it seems like there’s not a lot, but they pack quite a punch, about 200-240mg of caffeine!

Like I just said, these things taste great! They’re like those bosten baked bean candies (the peanuts, you know what I’m talking about), but they’re even better because they’re caffeinated and taste like, well, coffee! The beans have a slight candy taste and are a bit chocolatey too. More so, however, they taste like coffee beans. Some of the products our there taste more like chocolate or candy than coffee, but Chargers’ beans have a coffee flavor that overpowers the chocolate, in a good way.

If you want to try these babies out for yourself, you can buy them online here for as little as $1.69.
