Welcome back, trusty reader! We've updated the site's look, and we have a lot more ideas we're working on at the moment! Let us know what you think!
I picked this drink up a while back at Albertson’s, when I was on the west coast. I had never seen this drink before, and due to the price of $0.88, curiosity got the best of me, and I bought a few. Max Velocity is a generic energy drink produced exclusively by Albertson’s, and can’t be found anywhere else(many thanks to Blue Fielder for pointing out that Albertson’s distributes this to other chains). I have to admit I don’t know what to expect from this drink, as it looks a little bland.
The packaging features a Cheetah running and the can reads that it’s an Energy Drink with taurine enhanced with B vitamins; that sounds very generic. The can is a dark brownish red and is 8.45oz. Each can contains 120 calories, 33g of sugar, lots of Vitamin B, taurine, and caffeine. Upon opening the can, the smell and the caramel-color jogged my memory and I realized what this was – a “poor man’s Red Bull.” Max Velocity, like many generic energy drinks, smells and tastes just like Red Bull, only a little less strong tasting. To be quite honest, it’s not bad like I thought it would be, it goes down smooth and doesn’t have any bad aftertaste or anything else that would make me not like it. Additionally, the fact that it’s only 88 cents is great! You could buy 3 of these for the price of one Red Bull; this basically is Red Bull without the name. The can also has a quality promise on the back, and offers a refund if you don’t like the drink. I’m happy to say that I won’t be calling that number, as while a generic drink, Max Velocity is worth the 88 cents and may come in handy when you need a cheap boost of energy.
Unfortunately, the caffeine content isn’t listed on the can, but I’ve contacted Albertsons, and I should hear back from them soon!

…produced exclusively by Albertson’s, and can’t be found anywhere else.
I wouldn’t say that – I’ve seen and bought them from at least one other place: Lance’s Newmarket/Supervalu in Garrett, IN.
I was browsing the grocery store trying to find some soda, need to save money so I didnt want to buy any energy drinks, but then i just saw ….88 cents and i was like WHATTT….so I had to picked it up the sugar free Max Velocity.
Surprisingly it was good, it tasted like Kronic to me like a little grapefruit flavor.
I like a lot of energy drinks right now I have just been drinking Monster, but now that I know there is one for 88 cents I am definately going to start drinking that.
I picked up a few of these the other day at Jewel Osco, Chicago super market, due to its cheap price tag. I think these were on sales for close to 70 cents for one. I tried both suger and non sugar ones. I have to agree, its a poor man’s red bull. The taste and quality reminded me of a slightly water down red bull. I really should try both side by side to see how slight that water down of a taste it is. But hey, for 70 cents, who really cares? I usually down one of these before heading out to the gym. It gives me a lot of energy and support thru tough work out. I am also curious to find out how much caffeine is in these… Anyways, not bad at all for the price tag… and definitely better tasting then a lot of other energy drinks out there.

i got a 500 ml one for a dollar !
Anyone know if there is a way to buy these in bulk? I work two jobs and go to school. I need the kick at least 3 times a week.
Thanks,
Sarah
I BOUGHT IT SINCE IN WAS INFRONT OF THE STORE AND 99c. ..I LIKED MAX VOLOCITY ALOT AND KEPT ME FROM DRINKING SO MANY SODAS’, PLUS DID MORE FOR ME THAN RED BULL… AT 74 YOU WILL TRY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING FOR A LITTLE EXTRA BOOST FOR THE DAY…(WITHOUT ALCOHOL)THINK I’LL HAVE ONE NOW
I just picked some up due to the price as well. I drink at least one Red Bull a day on top of Diet Pepsi Max in the morning so I am no stranger to highly caffeinated drinks. I drank one yesterday at 4PM and still felt wide awake at midnight, even after a hard work out.
I did some searching and found this post saying there is 160 milligrams of caffeine in a 16 oz can, about the same as 16oz oz of Red Bull. Sure feels like more though:

Albertsons is a Supervalu chain. Max Velocity is the Supervalu generic.
