FRS Energy: Peach Mango

Hey CG readers! Check me out on Twitter and MySpace and make me feel loved! :P The Facebook page is coming too soon, and I'm still working on updating the Twitter and MySpace

FRS Low Calorie Peach Energy Drink Today we’ll cover the fourth and final FRS Energy product. The last FRS product is the only one that’s an actual ready to drink energy drink, unlike the other ones. I have to say that the FRS product line is pretty repetitive, as they’re all the same product basically, but in different forms. The FRS Peach Energy has a very nice peach-mango scent, and it contains the same yellow-orange color as the FRS powder and syrup. Of the four products, I have to say this one is my favorite; not only do you not have to prepare it, but it’s the best tasting. The drink has a nice, although somewhat bland, peachy mango flavor to it. It’s not bitter in the least bit, and it doesn’t taste artificial or bitter as it contains mango puree and peach juice. This drink is great for people who need some energy without all of the sugar and artificial flavors of some energy drinks. The Peach Mango only has 25 calories, it’s non-carbonated, and contains the proprietary FRS vitamin blend. Additionally, it contains 48mg of caffeine and while it’s still a smaller amount than most energy products, its a good amount and is a step up from the other FRS products. Overall this drink is pretty good, it packs a nice bit of energy, tastes great and is pretty healthy.

Power Up!

Super Mario Power Up! Energy DrinkMamma Mia! As if it isn’t enough to appear in 200+ video games, Mario now has his own energy drink! Power Up! (produced by Boston America Corp) comes in a blue can with a picture of Mario and a mushroom. Power Up! is clear and smells like raspberry with a hint of a Red Bull like scent (kind of like Sweet Tarts) to it. Power Up has a fairly tart taste to it, a bit of a sour (like Nerd) raspberry taste, again with a hint of a Red Bull like taste. Power Up! costs 2.99, so it’s more of a novelty drink than a mass marketed drink, maybe something to appeal to the young gamers, but ironically the can reads, “not intended for children”. Mario’s new drink also seems a little more carbonated than other drinks, but it goes down smooth without any problems. The kick is pretty good as well, with 120mg of caffeine per can (8.4 fl oz.) this drink gets you going and you’ll be stomping Koopa Troopas and Goombas in no time! To sum things up, Power Up! is a small drink that comes with a big boost of energy. It has an interesting taste, and is a fun idea (and I expect a Luigi drink in the near future Boston America Corp). However, for 2.99 for an 8oz can, I won’t be buying too many of these in the near future.

Joker Mad Energy

Joker Mad Energy Drink, by Hansen BeverageWow. Déjà Vu. Today we have Joker Mad Energy, an energy drink that only cost me 99 cents. I’m having a Déjà Vu moment because it seems like I’ve had this before. Oh, I know why – it tastes EXACTLY like Monster Energy, only sweeter. This stuff isn’t bad, although it seems really carbonated, although I can handle discomfort if I only have to pay 99 cents. It’s hard to describe the taste, it almost seems to have a hint of a vitamin (like the Finstones chewable ones) taste, but it’s not strong and it doesn’t taste bad. The kick is great too; it has an Energy Blend of Glucose, Caffeine, Guarana, Inositol, Glucuronlactone and Maltodextin. That’s the same energy blend as Monster! This is too weird. It tastes like Monster, has the same energy blend, has the same warning label in the back, both drinks say ‘Ball’ on the back (the canning/packaging company I think) and they look the same too. A quick Google search revealed my suspicions: if you go to Beverage World you’ll read “Joker Mad Energy, a beverage born out of its [Circle K] partnership with Hansen Beverage Co”. Hansen Beverage Co is the company that owns Monster Beverage, meaning that Monster and Joker Energy are both owned by the same company. Okay then, Joker Energy is a lot cheaper and tastes the same, so why would any one buy Monster anymore? I’m also a little confused and disappointed that Hansen can’t come up with more than one flavor for it’s energy drinks, but that’s beside the point. Joker Energy is pretty good and delivers that kick that energy drinks should, its also cheap too! I’d recommend trying this, especially if you’re a Monster fan that doesn’t feel like paying as much, because it’s basically the same.

Monster Assault

Monster Assault Energy Drink Monster Assault is one of the original members of the lineup, and it’s about time we check it out. Monster Assault, like all the other Monster products, contains the same energy mix and caffeine content (10mg/1oz, 160mg in a 16oz can) so Assault isn’t going to give any more, or less, of a kick than it’s kin. However, it does have a nice packaging, and a different taste. Monster Assault has a brownish red color, and a distinct flavor. It’s hard to describe, as it’s not an identifiable one like other drinks, but it’s not bad. Monster Assault is also very aerated and carbonated and when I’m drinking it, it feels like I’m swallowing a breath of air along with each sip, which is fairly annoying. I’ve gotten this sensation with other Monster beverages in the past as well, which is why I’m not a huge Monster fan, but it may just be me. The kick of this drink was very pleasing though; the Monster energy blend has always been good and got me going this morning. Monster Energy contains 2500mg of their Energy Blend per 8oz of drink (so this has 5000mg of it). The blend consists of: L-Carnitine, Glucose, Caffeine, Guarana, Inositol, Glucuronolactose, and Maltodextrin. The beverage doesn’t say how much of each compound it contains, but that doesn’t matter, as long as it delivers a good kick. Monster Assault has a good taste, and a great kick. If it weren’t for the high amount of carbonation, I would like it a lot more. However, if you are a Monster fan, Monster Assault is the way to go and will not let you down!
