Loud Truck Energy Gummies
Hey CG readers! Check me out on Twitter and MySpace and make me feel loved! :P The Facebook page is coming too soon, and I'm still working on updating the Twitter and MySpace
Well, what do we have here? The generous folks at Chemical Evolution sent us some awesome products to review, and, well, we plan to review them! The products in the limelight today are Loud Truck Gummies; two different flavors of caffeinated, fruity, gummies!
The first of the two varieties are the citrus blast gummies. The bag is white and orange, features a green dragon, and boasts both no-crash energy and U.S.A pride. Each bag of the citrus blast gummies comes with 9 (the bag claims 9, but I lucked out and got 10!) energy packed gummi bears. Yep, that’s right, they’re gummi bears! One bag contains 32mg of caffeine, 36mg of taurine, 220mg of Vitamin C, and 60 calories. For a pack of 9 (or 10) gummi bears, that’s not bad! Upon opening the bag, there’s a great orangey, citrusy smell. As for the taste, the gummies have a great taste, there’s a hint of orange – they’re not overly powered, and they’re not bitter either. I like these a lot, and for 99 cents, it’s not a bad deal either.
The second bag contains the red blast variety, the stronger, cherry flavored variety of the two. This variety boasts twice the kick – 64mg of caffeine, 72mg of taurine, and 450mg of Vitamin C. The great part is that these are only 99 cents as well, twice the kick for the same price. These are just as good as the other variety, they have a mild cherry taste, and a great cherry aroma as well.
This is a great product, they’re caffeinated gummi bears, what’s not to love? If you want to try them out you can get the citrus blast ones here, or the red blast here.
Mtn Dew: Game Fuel
Mountain Dew is back again with a new promotion and two new flavors. Introducing: Mtn Dew Game Fuel, two varieties featuring 121mg of caffeine and World of Warcraft in an attempt to win gamers’ hearts over. The bottles even display a link on the lower left for a free trial of WoW and a chance to win some nifty prizes! While I currently consider myself to be a recovering WoW addict, that doesn’t change the fact that these new products from Mountain Dew are pretty darn good.
The first of the two varieties is blue in color and features a Night Elf from Warcraft on the bottle. The bottle features a “World of Warcraft” branding, and a “Game Fuel” banner under the usual “Mtn Dew” banner. This variety claims to come with a “punch of wild fruit flavor,” which is extremely vague, but my not so vague taste buds tell me it’s raspberry. It’s a great, smooth taste, but it also seems a little familiar. I can’t be absolutely sure, but it reminds me of Revolution. I’ll be sure to compare them if I can find any Revolution, and if any of the readers can, feel free to let me know if they’re similar – or same – in taste.
The second of the two new Dews features an Orc and has a reddish-orange hue to it. It, like the other one, features a World of Warcraft branding and the “game fuel” tag. This product, however, comes with a “blast of citrus cherry flavor” and also seems to be familiar – like SuprNova. Either way, this flavor tastes fantastic as well.
To be honest, I can’t tell for sure, I want to say these two are Revolution and SuprNova reincarnated. If any of you readers have any SuprNova or Revolution stashed away, feel free to compare the two to Game Fuel, and drop us a line on whether or not they’re the same!
Kick Brix Energy Chews
If you keep up with Caffeine Guru reviews, it’s pretty obvious that the non-drink part of the caffeine market is rapidly expanding. Luckily for us, we’ve got our hand on one of the newest products on the market: Kick Brix. Kick Brix are caffeinated energy chews that promise “A monster kick without the bull.” After trying these things out, I have to agree. Kick Brix come individually wrapped and come in both 5-chew bags and economy sized tubs (good for the office or the kitchen counter). To best understand this product, think of large Starbursts packed with caffeine (is your mouth watering yet?
)
At the moment, Kick Brix come in two flavors, “Citrus” and “Berry Blast”. The 5-chew bag comes with both flavors, so we can check out both of them today. When you pop of these chews in your mouth, you’ll notice that at first they’re a little hard. After a second or two though, they soften up and are no problem at all to chew. Another thing I noticed, which I found interesting, was the chews strong menthol taste. The addition of menthol really makes these things stand out and it gives a relaxing feeling as the menthol clears your sinuses and throat. The first flavor, Berry Blast, comes in the red wrapper and is the slightly darker of the first two, whereas the Citrus flavor comes in orange wrapper and is a little lighter. Both flavors have the added menthol and have a hint of a fruit in them. The Citrus one has a more orange-based taste, and the Berry Blast tastes like, well, berries. To be honest, it’s hard for me to put my finger on the exact flavor due to the menthol, but they both taste great and are quite enjoyable.
Kick Brix only have 25 calories per chew, are sugar free, and contain 300mcg (1500%) of Vitamin B12. Also, these each contain a 150mg blend of panax ginseng, taurine, and caffeine. For those of you wondering about the amount of caffeine, each chew packs a punch of 90mg of caffeine per chew.
If you want to try some Kick Brix for yourself, they are currently having a promotion and are giving away free samples at their website!
Duff Energy Drink
Doh! Introducing Duff Energy Drink, that’s right, it’s the same Duff from the Simpsons (only this is the Energy Drink version of it, not the Beer in the show). This is the second novelty drink I’ve had and I was worried it would taste just like Power Up! (they are both made by Boston American Corp and available from Xoxide). Luckily, Duff is it’s own drink, not a generic formula with a different label. Duff looks just like the Duff in Groenig’s the Simpsons and carries both Groenig’s signature and the Simpsons logo. This clever energy drink version of Homer’s favorite beverage has an orange citrus taste to it; it smells and tastes a lot like Orange Crush. When I had this drink, it didn’t seem to be thy carbonated. However, one I had finished it, I couldn’t stop burping. Once it gets in your stomach, it seems to stet bubbling and you can’t control the burping! I’m not sure if this is intentional – Homer always burps after having Duff, maybe they do this to make it more similar to the show – or not. Duff Energy contains 120mg of caffeine (the can is 12fl oz) and isn’t any worse than the kick of name brand drinks. Duff energy tastes great, but it’s a little too carbonated for me to drink on a day to day basis, and while the 2.99 price may be worth it for Simpsons fans, it’s a little too pricey for me.
Nerd Energy Drink
Nerd. It used to be a term to describe that one kid in high school that now makes millions from computer software, and then it became a term to describe the kid that always got pummeled by dodge balls in gym class. Now it’s an energy drink. Nerd is one of the energy drinks I received in my latest product shipment and I’m really glad I got it. Nerd Energy has a light lime green color (like Mountain Dew, but much lighter) and smells a lot like the Orange flavor of Hi-C. It also has an interesting flavor, it’s a citrus blend, and has a lemon-lime twist and a slight amount of bitterness/tartness. Nerd is not unpleasantly tart; it’s just the right amount to make the flavor interesting and good tasting. The concept of this drink is just as interesting as the flavor, Nerd energy drink aims to “Increase mental alertness, acuity and focus by increasing oxygenation and blood flow to the brain…maintain proper mental focus, memory function… and mental clarity”. Nerd energy delivers the same ingredients as it’s competitors, but in addition, contains Vinpocetine, Huperzine A, DMAE, and Ginkgo Biloba to help with memory. A medical student and an engineer researched other dinks combined the best ingredients from them to create Nerd back in the summer of 2006. Nerd delivers a good kick like other energy drinks, and does increase focus and alertness. This great drink contains 165 calories, 1500mg of taurine, 120mg of caffeine, and the memory retention ingredients, adding up to an Energy Blend of 2.64g. I was really surprised by how great Nerd is, and I’m going to get more soon! Unfortunately, Nerd is hard to come buy in most states, so you may need to check out NerdEnergy.com (currently offering free shipping 24-12oz cans for 48.00) or Xoxide Caffeine. Overall, Nerd is one of the all around best drinks I have come across, and I highly recommend this.
NOS High Performance Energy
It’s time to take a look at NOS High Performance Energy Drink. You can sum this drink up with one word. Awesome. This fantastic beverage is one of my favorite caffeinated beverages (next to coffee) and definitely deserves a spot. Before we get to the actual drink, take a look at the packaging. You know that any drink with a bright packaging with a warning label is going to give you a kick, especially when it says to keep it away from pregnant women and children. NOS is no exception. With 343mg (about 2-3 cups of coffee) of caffeine per 22oz (entire bottle), this stuff is going to get you going. Remember, 343mg of caffeine is a lot of caffeine, so it would be wise to limit yourself to no more than 22oz bottle of NOS a day (I’ll admit that I didn’t finish the entire drink today) unless your body is used to getting more caffeine than that. NOS smells and tastes great as well. Its flavor and aroma is citrusy, and after checking the ingredients I realized the taste is Passionfruit. NOS is not too strong or bitter in taste like some drinks and doesn’t have a bad after taste. In other words, NOS is an energy drink that gives a kick, without sacrificing the flavor of the drink. NOS also comes in smaller bottles and in cans, but I prefer the bottles because a) They look a lot cooler and b) They come with a screw off cap, so you can save the rest of the NOS (as half the bottle is enough caffeine for most people) for later. This drink also contains 2750mg of Taurine, 550mg of L-Carnitine, 274mg of Inositol and 136mg of Panax Ginseng per bottle. So, unless you either really need the caffeine, or can handle it, the smaller bottle (11oz – 173mg caffeine as pictured here) might be better for you. Either way, NOS High Performance Energy Drink is one of the best tasting, and best delivering energy drinks on the market!
Citrus CRUNK!!!
I’m probably going to pass out any moment here from the heat, but before my internal organs fry and my body shuts down, let me tell you about Citrus CRUNK!!! As I said earlier, its pretty hot here, so I picked up Citrus CRUNK!!! because it claims to contain real lemon lime. Hopefully, this will taste like lemonade and cool me off. After buying this drink at the local BP, I noticed something odd about the top half of the can. It reads “Energize – Replenish – Stimulate – Refresh – Invigorate – Arouse”. Yes. You read that correctly, Citrus CRUNK!!! has Epimedium in it, which allegedly has the properties of a mild aphrodisiac. Strange. The bottom of the can lists some of the ingredients, including “Ashwaganda – Horny Goat Weed – Ginseng – Guarana – Skull Cap – White Willow”. Now, is it just me, or do “Skull Cap” and “White Willow” sound like street names for drugs? (don’t worry, they’re not drugs, just plants) Nevertheless, I am going to drink this. Pop the top and it smells just like Gatorade Lemonade, and it keeps its promise with its twist of lemon lime. It’s a little on the sour side, but it tastes fantastic! It’s also great for you because there are no artificial colors or preservatives. The can states that the energy blend consists of 97mg of caffeine, but doesn’t state is it’s per serving or can. There’s two serving per can, so I’m guessing that there is 194mg of caffeine in the entire can. So far, Citrus CRUNK!!! is doing quite well in my opinion. The taste, smell, and kick are everything I could ask for. As for the aphrodisiac, I doubt there’s enough Horny Goat Weed in this to do anything (if it actually does anything at all) as last I checked, Pfizer has yet to acquire CRUNK!!! Energy. Either way, Citrus CRUNK!!! really hits the spot, especially on a hot day!
Mountain Dew: Voltage
Today we’ll cover the second of the three new limited edition flavors introduced to Mountain Dew. This second variety is called Voltage. Voltage, like SuperNova, also contains ginseng and the normal amount of caffeine in the other Mountain Dew beverages (36mg/8oz or 91mg/20oz). Voltage is tinted with a dark blue hue and is Raspberry and Citrus flavored (why are products always blue when they are flavored raspberry? Raspberries are RED not blue) and upon opening the bottle, I could already tell by the scent that I would like it. Unlike some sodas, whose scent and taste are on the weak side, Voltage has a powerful taste (almost as much as SuperNovas) and it tastes just like a Blue Raspberry ICEE (which don’t have caffeine by the way). If you don’t know what that tastes like, you need to go buy one, because there’s no better way to explain Mountain Dew Voltage. Being the lover of Blue Raspberry ICEEs that I am, I like Mountain Dew Voltage very much, and because it has caffeine It’s superior to ICEEs in every way. I would go and vote on this flavor (remember, you can vote to decide which of the 3 flavors gets permanently added to the lineup), but I still have one more flavor to try which, according to DEWmocracy, is the underdog in this race.
