Ávitāe Energy Water
Hey CG readers! Check me out on Twitter and MySpace and make me feel loved! :P The Facebook page is coming too soon, and I'm still working on updating the Twitter and MySpace
A lot of people consider water to be essential for life. Well, I consider caffeine to be an essential substance as well, so I’m set with Ávitāe energy water. That’s right folks, it’s just water and caffeine; no flavors, no additives (besides caffeine), just water (and caffeine). Each bottle of Ávitāe comes with half a liter of water and 45 mg of caffeine, which is about the same amount of caffeine in a soda. It’s a great concept really, it’s great for athletes, there’s no sugar to crash from, it won’t cause cramping, and it hydrates well too. It’s like the ultimate sports drink!
Ávitāe comes in a triangular, cylindrical shaped bottle and the bottle diffuses from gray to clear. The bottle displays the name of product and the world “vitality” appears in yellow over the “v”. It’s a really simplistic design, so there’s not that much to say about the bottle.
As for the actual product, Ávitāe tastes likes, well, it’s water. It has the kick of a cola, but doesn’t taste like anything, so it’s just water with a kick. Ávitāe is a really simple product, no gimmicks, no additives, just water with some caffeine. If you want to learn more about Ávitāe, you can head over to their site.
Kick Brix Energy Chews
If you keep up with Caffeine Guru reviews, it’s pretty obvious that the non-drink part of the caffeine market is rapidly expanding. Luckily for us, we’ve got our hand on one of the newest products on the market: Kick Brix. Kick Brix are caffeinated energy chews that promise “A monster kick without the bull.” After trying these things out, I have to agree. Kick Brix come individually wrapped and come in both 5-chew bags and economy sized tubs (good for the office or the kitchen counter). To best understand this product, think of large Starbursts packed with caffeine (is your mouth watering yet?
)
At the moment, Kick Brix come in two flavors, “Citrus” and “Berry Blast”. The 5-chew bag comes with both flavors, so we can check out both of them today. When you pop of these chews in your mouth, you’ll notice that at first they’re a little hard. After a second or two though, they soften up and are no problem at all to chew. Another thing I noticed, which I found interesting, was the chews strong menthol taste. The addition of menthol really makes these things stand out and it gives a relaxing feeling as the menthol clears your sinuses and throat. The first flavor, Berry Blast, comes in the red wrapper and is the slightly darker of the first two, whereas the Citrus flavor comes in orange wrapper and is a little lighter. Both flavors have the added menthol and have a hint of a fruit in them. The Citrus one has a more orange-based taste, and the Berry Blast tastes like, well, berries. To be honest, it’s hard for me to put my finger on the exact flavor due to the menthol, but they both taste great and are quite enjoyable.
Kick Brix only have 25 calories per chew, are sugar free, and contain 300mcg (1500%) of Vitamin B12. Also, these each contain a 150mg blend of panax ginseng, taurine, and caffeine. For those of you wondering about the amount of caffeine, each chew packs a punch of 90mg of caffeine per chew.
If you want to try some Kick Brix for yourself, they are currently having a promotion and are giving away free samples at their website!
Enlyten Energy Strips
I remember a few years back when Listerine released their breath strips. I was amazed by this concept, that one could keep fresh breath, in the form of a strip, readily available for any situation that may demand it. Now, Enlyten has gone ahead and done the same thing, except they added caffeine. Let’s face it, no one cares about your breath if you’re slouching and half asleep, but with Enlyten strips, you can be fully attentive, energized, and have great breath!
Enlyten Energy Strips come in a small case that slides open to reveal 22 individual green strips. The strips are the same size as the breath strips on the market, only these aren’t smooth and plasticy; they’re a little rougher and have the texture of paper. They do however, have a fantastic minty taste that will fight any bad breath. The case suggests that you can place the strips between the gum and cheek, or on the tongue. I personally would suggest only putting them on the tongue, as when I put them between the cheek and gums, it got mashed, clumped up, and stuck to my teeth. (However, putting it between the cheek makes the caffeine get absorbed faster, so for best results, go with the gums/cheek method.)I had to brush my teeth to remove the green globbish mass of energy strip, and subsequently became depressed that I had to sacrifice a strip to my toothbrush
.It’s all good now because I still have 20 left.
The strip instantly begins to dissolve on your tongue, and delivers the caffeine while the strip dissolves. It takes a few minutes for it to disappear completely, and it makes your saliva glands act up a little as well, so don’t take one of these as you’re delivering an important business seminar to get that foreign investor to cough up a few million dollars to your company. I would however, take the strips beforehand to get some energy, as any savvy investor loves fresh breath and energy.
These energy strips contain zero calories, and each serving (3 strips) contains 150% of your daily dosage of Vitamin B6, and 125% of vitamin B12. Three strips also contain a total of 32mg of a blend of caffeine, ginseng, and gingko biloba.
Enlyten also makes strips with electrolytes, melatonin, and antioxidants. You can buy this fantastic product online, and one of Enlyten’s distributors, Mark V, has been kind enough to offer a free case (22 strips) of one of their products with every purchase of 1 pack (4 cases, 88 strip).
Foosh Energy Mints
Not too long ago, the folks over at Vroom Foods amazed me with their ability to cram 100mg of caffeine into tiny little chocolate chews. My mind had trouble comprehending such a feat, and I finally have decided that the company must use some sort of magic or tiny gnomes to get high concentrations of caffeine into their candies. Regardless of how they do this, they have done it again through their seriously caffeinated Foosh Energy Mints. Foosh Energy Mints are available in two packages; either a 12-mint tin or a 6-mint case (shown in the picture). Each mint contains 100mg of caffeine, which is more than an 8oz RedBull and equal to the amount of caffeine in Vroom Buzz Bites.
Unlike other caffeinated candies, Foosh Mints contain no sugar, and aren’t bitter from the caffeine. I was extremely tired this morning, and decided to pop one in my mouth to see how well they work, and the caffeine from these little buggers is what’s allowing me to write this review right now. Foosh Mints are about the size of my thumbnail and are fairly thick. I tried to bite into it at first, and realized it’s easier said than done; these things are tough! After a few minutes of a delightful minty flavor that cleared my sinuses, the mint had dissolved enough for me to bite it because I am impatient and do not like to wait for mints to dissolve. The entire time, the Foosh kept its minty flavor and supplied me with enough caffeine to wake me up, and gave me fresh breath (as opposed to coffee with gives me terrible breath).
The concept of Foosh Mints is great! The small packages allow you to carry several mints with you for when you may need a sudden burst of energy. Foosh Mints don’t cause a crash, are sugar free, very minty, and contain 5 calories, 100mg of caffeine and a lot of vitamin B in each mint. Foosh Mints are also made with natural peppermint, making this a healthy and convenient product. Foosh also can deliver the best “buzz for you buck” (you like that phrase? I just made it up, and I just coined it as my own) as the cost per 100mg of caffeine is only $.25, where as energy drinks will cost more than a dollar for an equal, or lesser, kick. So if you want to spend some money on caffeine, and you want a good deal, Foosh Mints are one of the best deals in the market.
If you want to get some of your own, you can buy some through Vroom Foods, and if you’re a first time customer they’ll treat you to some stickers and a few extra mints!
24:7 Cherry Berry
24:7 Energy is one of the many available energy drinks on the markets and one of the many flavors is Cherry Berry. You can find 24:7 exclusively at Walgreens for about 3/5$, which is a little steeper price than it’s worth. Either way, no matter how high the price, I feel an obligation to society to try any product I cross paths with. Now that I’ve ranted about prices and societal obligations, let’s get to the actual drink. 24:7 Cherry Berry comes in a can similar to the other varieties; the can has a Matrix-like print style on the lower half, and a large digital 24:7 on the top half. This drink doesn’t live up to it’s name, as if it did provide 24/7 energy I would stop reviewing other drinks and invest all of my assets in PriLabs Inc (the manufacturer). However, if you constantly drink this you will stay up 24/7. Well at least until you stop drinking it, or die of an overdose of caffeine, whatever comes first!
Appropriately, this drink has a red color, but it’s a little lacking in the flavor. While 24:7 Cherry Berry does down smoothly due to its low carbonation, the taste is sour and kind of tastes like cough syrup. It’s not as nasty as cough syrup, it’s just the same cherry flavor, although the sourness makes this just as enjoyable of Kid’s Tylenol Cough Syrup (which isn’t good at all). The drink seems more like diluted cherry syrup than a carbonated energy beverage because it tastes artificial and unhealthy. Part of me thinks this may be a bad can, and it expired before the expiration date or something, and I may try it again in the future to confirm whether or not it’s this bad. Neither the site, nor the can, list the caffeine content, although I’ve read elsewhere that each can contains 160mg of caffeine. I think this may keep me up 24/7 after all as I might have nightmares from this.
Maxxed Energy Pop
I came across this oddity the other day at a gas station when I was out of town. Being it the first energized lollipop I’ve seen, and being the sucker I am (haha), I couldn’t resist buying it (or making that terrible sucker pun). Maxxed Energy Pops are an “alternative energy source” for anyone that wants convenient energy on the go. Each pop comes in a small cardboard Pringles can type tube with a tabbed top for easy opening. The suckers, manufactured by Charms, LLC, are larger than your average Blow Pop and contain 40mg of caffeine. Maxxed also contains taurine, guarana, panax ginseng, and vitamin B12, putting it at the same level as many other energy products.
Maxxed Energy Pops are colored bright, neon green and come individually wrapped in gold foil. They are a little bitter from the high concentration of caffeine and the lemon-lime flavoring. If you don’t mind the slight sourness of the pop, then you’re good to go. If, on the other hand, you cringe at the thought of anything remotely sour, then I’d move on to something else if I were you. The site claims that Maxxed Pops are “50% larger” than ordinary lollipops, and they’re right in their statement. This thing takes quite a while to finish (without biting it of course) and as I write this, I still haven’t finished it. The point of this product is to provide energy, and I do feel a little more wired since starting this, and the fact that you don’t get all the caffeine at once helps provide a consistent source of caffeine. If you want to check this out for yourself you can go over to the Maxxed Website, but as of right now the site’s a little outdated and glitchy.
FRS Energy: Peach Mango
Today we’ll cover the fourth and final FRS Energy product. The last FRS product is the only one that’s an actual ready to drink energy drink, unlike the other ones. I have to say that the FRS product line is pretty repetitive, as they’re all the same product basically, but in different forms. The FRS Peach Energy has a very nice peach-mango scent, and it contains the same yellow-orange color as the FRS powder and syrup. Of the four products, I have to say this one is my favorite; not only do you not have to prepare it, but it’s the best tasting. The drink has a nice, although somewhat bland, peachy mango flavor to it. It’s not bitter in the least bit, and it doesn’t taste artificial or bitter as it contains mango puree and peach juice. This drink is great for people who need some energy without all of the sugar and artificial flavors of some energy drinks. The Peach Mango only has 25 calories, it’s non-carbonated, and contains the proprietary FRS vitamin blend. Additionally, it contains 48mg of caffeine and while it’s still a smaller amount than most energy products, its a good amount and is a step up from the other FRS products. Overall this drink is pretty good, it packs a nice bit of energy, tastes great and is pretty healthy.
FRS Liquid Concentrate
First chews, then powdered mixes, now FRS comes in liquid concentrate form. The FRS liquid concentrate mix is like its kin, the powdered mix, in every way except for, well, it’s not a powdered mix. The syrup comes in a 5-serving bottle, and the packaging suggests that you finish the bottle within one month of opening it. Each serving consists of mixing 2oz of the mix with about 6oz of water, much like each powdered packet goes with 6oz of water. The result is an orange flavored, non-carbonated, energy drink perfect for drinking prior to a workout. This low calorie (20 calories per serving) drink tastes like Sunny D, but is a little less sweet, but certainly better for you. Like the rest of the products in the FRS Energy line, the syrup contains the standard FRS mix of various vitamins and quercetin, as well as antioxidants. It tastes great, and while it only has 35mg of caffeine per serving, the liquid concentrate is marketed as more of a health drink than one that will get you wired on caffeine. If you’re looking for a drink to give you the energy and nutrients for a workout, or any other aerobic activity, look no farther. If you want something to wake you up and get you wired though, you may want to look somewhere else.
FRS Lemon Lime Energy Chews
Today we’ll start off with the first of four FRS Healthy Energy Products, the Energy Chews. The chews come in a resalable bag of 30, and each chew is individually wrapped. With 20mg of caffeine per piece, these energy chews are obviously weaker than the Buzz Bites, but the FRS products are marketed as energy for workouts ad exercise, not for high caffeine content. Nevertheless, these chews contain caffeine and deserve a spot on CaffeineGuru. When I opened the bag of these chews, an amazing aroma of lemon-lime overcame me. The actual smell of the chew alone is a little less ambrosial, but it still isn’t bad. The taste of the chew is a little weaker than the smell, a tad sour (form the caffeine and vitamins), with a hint of lemon-lime, and the texture is a little on the gritty side. Overall, it isn’t bad though, while the caffeine content is low, it still provides a small kick, and claims to provide essential nutrients such as quercitin and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and E. The small size of the chews makes it easy and convenient to get a boost of energy on the go, or for a workout. If you’re interested, you can get them and the other FRS products for free (well almost free, as there’s a shipping charge) here
and try them out for yourself.
FRS Healthy Energy
Recently I’ve seen a lot of online ads for FRS Healthy Energy, including the one on CaffeineGuru. With all of their marketing appearing suddenly, I’ve decided to check it out. FRS is currently offering a free trial (+S&H), so you can try their products for a few dollars (from the S&H). Their sample package arrived a few days ago, and I’ll start reviewing it soon. From what I know so far, FRS is more of an energy boost for workouts and physical activities, and less for just waking up like many other drinks out there. I also know it’s endorsed by Lance Armstrong, so I’ll be looking forward to these four products!
Update: I’ve reviewed them all now! Check out the reviews for the: chews, powdered mix, drink concentrate, and the ready to drink energy drink.
